I was extremely proud to represent Bollywood Funk NYC and chat with public middle school students last night from Brooklyn about careers in dance and the performing arts at Citizen Schools New York's December 'WOW!' event, entitled "6 Degrees of Separation". I chatted with incredibly intelligent, eager and energetic 8th graders as they practiced their networking skills, and asked advice on how to get started on achieving their career goals. Last night's WOW! event was to celebrate the students' completion of a 10-week long after-school apprenticeship program. What a GREAT group of kids, totally inspiring!!! A few of the gals were fans of Bollywood dance as well ;)
Now a growing national network of after-school education
programs for students in the middle grades (6th, 7th and 8th), Citizen Schools has programs in 7 states across the U.S., which complement classroom
learning by engaging students in hands-on learning projects led by adult
volunteers after school and supported by a staff of professional educators. The organization is at the forefront of a movement to transform the
learning day and improve the educational trajectories of young people across the
country.
