Saw "Kurbaan" last night to a surprisingly not-so-full house at the Imaginasian Theatre. Out of a 5, I give Kurbaan a 2.5. The movie was a complete serious drama, so any of you song-and-dance-masala fans out there will be disappointed if you go expecting that. Anyhow, terrorism being the main theme of the movie, you know its got to be disturbing. In my opinion, Karan Johar did an impressive attempt at covering such a dark topic, although I felt the movie was a little too long for what it was; some parts were too long and drawn-out, and some of the dialogue re: the scenes with FBI agents was a bit corny and obviously they were borrowing from stereotypical ideas of law enforcement (can Bollywood PLEASE take some time and care with working with your supporting/junior actors in addition to your big stars, and not make all Americans look like total doofuses!? thank you). I recommend Johar-Ji watch a few episodes of NYPD Blue.
Ok, anyway....there was blood, some graphic...and yes, there was a love scene and there was kissing between Saif and Kareena...although I felt pretty tastefully done considering what else is on the silver screen these days. Oh! And YES, I did end up making it into the film! MY scene is at the very beginning of the film, when they are in the park visiting and running through a 4th of July parade. You only see me for a split second for two, but I am there! If you can spot me, then props to you. the whole scene is in the film for about 10 seconds, and it took 10 hours to shoot, LOL.
Vivek Oberoi did a GREAT job in his role, and I hope he gets some award for it- he totally shone brightly in my mind. Om Puri and Kiran Kher were also impressive in their supporting roles. This is NOT a family film, so dont take the kids, and regardless of what review you give it, it will undoubtedly stir some anger/emotions and leave you with something to think about.
