Maf kar do, I have been M.I.A. due to back-to-back performances with Bollywood Funk NYC in Sept. and Oct, followed by Turkey Day,and life in general. I've managed to see a few films here and there, including 'Break Ke Baad' (just like 'Love Aaj Kal', but still enjoyable), but what I was FLOORED by was this amazing Tamil film recommended called 'Kannathil Muthamittal' ('Peck on the Cheek'). Check out this BEAUTIFUL clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gq1GFz37WgY

This 2002 film was directed by Mani Ratnam and stars Nandita Das, R. Madhavan (3 Idiots, Rang de Basanti), Simran Bagga, and then-newcomer and lead actress P.S. Keerthana. The one and only A.R. Rahman composed the film's score and soundtrack, which paired with the breaktaking cinematography and storyline, I would put on as high a pedestal as 'Lagaan'.

(to quote Wikipedia), 'The film's title is a famous phrase from a poem written by Subramanya Bharathi, which literally means a peck on the cheek. Mani Ratnam presents a glimpse of the Island of Sri Lanka at civil war, through the eyes of a child of Sri Lankan Tamil parentage, who desires to meet her biological mother. The film premiered at the 2002 Toronto International Film Festival, and was selected as India's official entry to the 2004 Cannes Film Festival. It also received a strong reception when screened at the San Francisco International Film Festival in 2003. The film went on to win six Filmfare Awards South, six National Film Awards, and Best Film awards at six international film festivals. Film was also released in Telugu in the name "Amrutha".  THANK you to my friend and BFunk'er Kalyani for recommending!! I welcome further Tamil film suggestions from any of my blog subscribers :)
